Styling the Midi Dress
Share
The midi is the most useful length in a wardrobe and the easiest to get slightly wrong. It sits between the two lengths everyone knows how to wear, which means the details around it do the work.
The shoe decides the day
The same midi is three different outfits depending on what is under it. A flat sandal keeps it easy and daytime. A boot pulls it into autumn and shortens the visual gap at the ankle. A low heel takes it somewhere that expects you to have made an effort. Nothing else needs to change.
Pick the fabric for the season, not the print
The Juniper Midi and the Posy Midi are cotton, which is why they work in heat. The Cora Midi is cotton poplin and holds its shape a little more firmly, which reads as tidier without being stiff. The Clementine Midi is a cotton blend that creases less on a long day.
Give the waist a decision
A midi with the waist left alone falls in a straight line, which is calm and works well with a print. Add a belt and it becomes structured. Both are correct; picking one on purpose is what separates dressed from merely wearing.
Two that keep working when life changes
The Cora is cut to keep fitting through a pregnancy, and the Clementine opens for nursing. Neither of them looks like it was designed around that, which is rather the point.
